SUMMARY:Orixá: The Power of Candomblé — Prayer\, Practice\, Divination — An Afro-Brazilian Perspective
DESCRIPTION:Join AABCC for a night of live orixá dance\, drumming\, spoken word\, and learning\, featuring a lecture by Babalorixá Everaldo Nogueira d’Osun of Ilê Axé Omim Oniré. Light refreshments will be provided for guests. \nWho this event is for \nThis event is for seekers of the African diaspora\, lovers of Orisha dance\, drumming\, and poetry\, and those curious about African traditional religions\, divination\, and ancestral practices that ground the spirit and fortify the soul. It’s a space to enlighten and inform—showing how these traditions can spark deep\, radical change and bring powerful transformation to your everyday life. \nMeet Baba Everaldo \nBaba Everaldo D’Osun\, born May 12\, 1962 in Salvador\, Bahia\, was raised in the traditions of Candomblé through his mother’s devotion at the Bate Folhinha terreiro. Guided in his youth by Mãe Estelita and Pai Raimundo (Caçula)\, he was initiated at 23 as Omõ Oxum Opará in Ilé Asé Kalé Bokun and became Everaldo D’Oxum. After completing his Odun Ijé\, he rose as Babalorixá and founded Ilé Asé Omim Oniré\, a spiritual home for the children of the Orixas. A beloved elder\, he carries forward tradition with deep reverence and joy. \nWhat is Candomblé ? \nCandomblé is an embodied spiritual tradition rooted in deep relationship with the Orixás—divine forces of nature and ancestral energies—through ritual\, drumming\, dance\, and offerings. It is a practice of honoring\, communing with\, and embodying these sacred forces\, where spirit\, song\, and movement open the way for healing\, clarity\, and alignment. Grounded in reciprocity\, reverence\, and community\, Candomblé is a way of life that recognizes the sacred in nature\, in ancestry\, and in the unseen currents that move through all things.

SUMMARY:Faith\, Practice\, and Belonging: LGBTQ practitioners in Candomblé
DESCRIPTION:Come learn about the Afro-Brazilian religious practice of Candomblé and gain an understanding of some of the key differences between Candomblé and other religious practices. The talk will explore how Candomblé houses are a place of belonging for LGBTQ members and give a sense of how Candomblé houses are sites of activism in the current climate of religious intolerance in Brazil.
